Abstract

This study aims to improve the mathematics learning activities of tenth-grade students at SMK Darun Najah Jember through the implementation of mathematics-based ice breaking strategies integrated with digital media (smartboard). The study was motivated by preliminary observations indicating low learning motivation, insufficient mastery of basic mathematical concepts, and concentration problems during classroom instruction, particularly among female students. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) method using a qualitative descriptive approach. The participants consisted of 11 female students in the tenth grade. The intervention was conducted by integrating mathematics problems into ice breaking activities and utilizing a smartboard for material visualization and interactive graph creation. Data were collected through observation, field notes, and photographic documentation. The findings of the study are expected to demonstrate improvements in students’ participation, enthusiasm, and engagement throughout the learning process, thereby contributing to the development of innovative instructional strategies appropriate for vocational school contexts.
