Abstract

Learning innovation has become an essential component of contemporary education due to its potential to enhance the effectiveness of teaching and learning processes. This study aims to examine the role of learning innovation in improving the effectiveness of the teaching and learning process at SMP Diponegoro Jember through a literature review approach. The study employed a qualitative literature review method by analyzing relevant international scholarly publications obtained from reputable databases, including Google Scholar, Scopus, ERIC, ScienceDirect, and SpringerLink. The selected literature focused on learning innovation, instructional effectiveness, student engagement, educational technology, and student-centered learning published between 2020 and 2025. The findings reveal that learning innovation significantly contributes to improving student engagement, learning motivation, conceptual understanding, academic achievement, critical thinking, collaboration, and digital literacy. Various innovative learning models, such as Student-Centered Learning, Problem-Based Learning, Project-Based Learning, Inquiry-Based Learning, Flipped Classroom, and Blended Learning, have been found to enhance the quality of learning experiences and support the development of twenty-first-century competencies. Furthermore, technology integration facilitates personalized learning, increases accessibility to educational resources, and promotes active participation in the learning process. However, the successful implementation of learning innovation depends on teacher competence, technological readiness, institutional support, and a positive school culture. The study concludes that learning innovation is a strategic approach for improving educational effectiveness and should be continuously promoted to support meaningful, inclusive, and high-quality learning processes at SMP Diponegoro Jember and similar educational institutions.
